About Us

In 2019, a community-cultural initiative was launched in Aida refugee camp, as a response to a sencere need where youth in general and the female in particular living in a very hard conditions resulted from the daily oppression and attacks from the military forces of the occupation army. This initiative aims to provide young women with access to education, psychological support, and empower youth women to participate decision-making and to have effective role in the community inside the refugee camps and not only Aida Camp , in the same time we aimed to try to create a safe space for young women to express themselves and to have the role as agents of change. The initiative developed in 2021, when it worked with youth and women’s groups inside the camp and implementing several cultural activities, where we worked as a team to develop the initiative and to be as the first young institution in the camp led by a group of youth who succeeded together to deal with the social barrier and limitations and working In this organization where members of both sexes work and think together and looking forward to reach their dreams as refugee youth. Today, we at Al-Manar Organization for Culture and Creativity are working on several programs that support women and youth with the aim of providing opportunities for community participation

cofounder of al-manar society

Manar Qaraqe, 23 years old, a young Palestinian woman from Aida Refugee Camp. She studied a Bachelor's degree in Literature, minor Journalism and Media, and a Master’s in Development and International Cooperation. Since my childhood, I had an interest in community work and the ability of women to change. I acted in theater and began as a volunteer in Aida Camp. In my second year of university, I launched a cultural community initiative in the Aida refugee camp, and it served as an outlet for the girls and boys of the camp, where we would give lectures highlighting the needs of refugee youth. After that, the initiative developed, as I worked with youth groups inside the camp in the culture and community activities sector, where I developed the initiative into a community cultural institution, as the first young woman in the camp and the first youth group in which this framework worked, and thus we succeeded, along with the rest of the youth, in breaking the barrier of not implementing male and female activities. Together, we have succeeded in building an organization where members of both genders work and think together to change their lives. Reality and achieving their dreams as young refugees, all of us under 25 years old Through the Al-Manar Society for Culture and Creativity and the youth activities that it implemented, we were able to bring about a change in the behaviors of young men and women, and their vision of life. Through our activities, we have become more in love with life, and through our participation in these activities, especially those of a literary and creative nature, we have been able to express ourselves and our feelings through them. I also succeeded in working with school and university students in 12 schools and 3 universities, and working with 300 women over the past years in developing their skills and encouraging them to participate in decision-making and in achieving local and international partnerships. With the support of my colleagues, I was able to gather more than 100 volunteers in one year and develop the initiative into a community cultural institution, in order to prove that women are capable of change and my belief in youth work, and also to prove that even inside the camps we can live and achieve our dreams as young refugees.
